Vine mealybugs disrupt biomass allocation in grapevine

چکیده

Vine mealybug Planococcus ficus Signoret (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is an important phloem-feeding pest species in many grapevine producing areas worldwide. The economic damage of P. thought to be mainly caused by sooty mould on infested grape clusters and transmission plant viruses. Direct feeding plants (Vitis vinifera, L.) has only been vaguely described or otherwise completely discarded. present study the first give insight into direct impacts vegetative growth biomass dynamics plants. In a screenhouse, three-year-old, potted were with mealybugs at two different densities, imitating high low field infestation levels. Mealybug numbers, biomass, leaf area, size number monitored over six months compared control treatment without mealybugs. High levels reduced stem one third, while impacted indicating higher sensibility perennial parts reallocation biomass. Leaf not affected feeding. In conclusion, response gradual involves depending severity attack. Contrary previous assumptions, this demonstrates considerable temporal

Biomass Allocation Patterns across China’s Terrestrial Biomes

Root to shoot ratio (RS) is commonly used to describe the biomass allocation between below- and aboveground parts of plants. Determining the key factors influencing RS and interpreting the relationship between RS and environmental factors is important for biological and ecological research. In this study, we compiled 2088 pairs of root and shoot biomass data across China's terrestrial biomes to...

Family Differences in Aboveground Biomass Allocation in Loblolly Pine

The proportion of tree growth allocated to stemwood is an important economic component of growth efficiency. Differences in growth efficiency between species, or between families within species, may therefore be related to how growth is proportionally allocated between the stem and other aboveground biomass components. This study examines genetically related differences in aboveground biomass a...

High yielding biomass genotypes of willow (Salix spp.) show differences in below ground biomass allocation

Willows (Salix spp.) grown as short rotation coppice (SRC) are viewed as a sustainable source of biomass with a positive greenhouse gas (GHG) balance due to their potential to fix and accumulate carbon (C) below ground. However, exploiting this potential has been limited by the paucity of data available on below ground biomass allocation and the extent to which it varies between genotypes. Furt...

Factors affecting biomass allocation in the riverine macrophyte Justicia americana

The relative effects of hydrologic disturbance, abundance of root parasites, and ambient physicochemical conditions on total biomass, biomass allocation, and architecture of the emergent macrophyte Justicia americana (L.) Vahl. (Acanthanceae) were investigated in six south-central Alabama streams, USA. Justicia total biomass was negatively related to shading by riparian vegetation, which accoun...

Do plants modulate biomass allocation in response to petroleum pollution?

Biomass allocation is an important plant trait that responds plastically to environmental heterogeneities. However, the effects on this trait of pollutants owing to human activities remain largely unknown. In this study, we investigated the response of biomass allocation of Phragmites australis to petroleum pollution by a ¹³CO₂ pulse-labelling technique. Our data show that plant biomass signifi...
